Science

Welcome back to Year 8!

We hope you had a great summer break and are energized and ready for a fabulous and exciting year with science!

Whilst you are waiting to start your new lessons and learning journey in science this year here is an insight into what we will be doing and some tasks you can do to help you reenergize and reactive your science knowledge as well as begin to explore our new learning journey.

  • Biology, we will be looking at Health and what is a healthy diet, the impacts of unhealthy lifestyles as well as how our digestive system works. Can you do the following tasks?
  1. Find a picture of carbohydrate-rich foods, protein-rich foods, and fat-rich foods.
  2. What is meant by a nutrient?
  3. What is a healthy diet?

Here are some brilliant links for you to use to find information.

  • Chemistry, we will be starting to explore the Periodic Table. Can you do the following tasks?
    1. Find a picture of the periodic table.
    2. Can you identify two metals and two non-metals? Can you find them on the periodic table?
    3. Can you find one way in which the Periodic Table sorts the elements?

Here are some brilliant links for you to use to find information.

  • Physics, we will be investigating Electromagnetism, which explores static, circuits, electricity, and magnets. Can you do the following tasks?
  1. Find a picture of an atom showing protons, neutrons, and electrons.
  2. What are the different types of electrical charge?
  3. Can you investigate why when you rub a balloon, it makes your hair stand on end when placed close to your head?

Here are some brilliant links for you to use to find information.

We look forward to seeing you all soon 😊

Week Two

Hello again year 8!

After looking into the last topics of science that we will be exploring this year, here are some more to expand your knowledge a little further.

  • Biology, we will be looking at Health and what is a healthy diet, the impacts of unhealthy lifestyles as well as how our digestive system works. Can you do the following tasks?
  1. Find a picture of the digestive system, showing its major organs.
  1. What happens to the food we eat as it passes through our digestive system, what do each of the organs do?
  1. Have a go at the test your knowledge quiz on this BBC Bitesize link (it’s near the bottom of the web page) The structure of the digestive system - Nutrition, digestion and excretion - KS3 Biology - BBC Bitesize - BBC Bitesize

Here are some brilliant links for you to use to find information.

  • Chemistry, we will be starting to explore the Periodic Table. Can you do the following tasks?
  1. Find a picture of an object made of one element (hint: gold is an element)
  1. What is an element, compound, and mixture?
  1. Have a go at the test your knowledge of electricity quiz on this BBC Bitesize link (it’s near the bottom of the web page) Symbols and formulae - BBC Bitesize

Here are some brilliant links for you to use to find information.

  • Physics, we will be investigating Electromagnetism, which explores static, circuits, electricity, and magnets. Can you do the following tasks?
  1. Find a picture of an electric spark
  1. Following on from your research into static, what are electric sparks and shocks
  1. What is electricity?
  1. Have a go at the test your knowledge of electricity quiz on this BBC Bitesize link (it’s near the bottom of the web page) What is electricity guide for KS3 physics - BBC Bitesize

Here are some brilliant links for you to use to find information.

We look forward to seeing you all soon 😊
